Sen. Eddie Melton (D-Gary) is the first Indiana Democrat to take formal steps towards a gubernatorial run in 2020.

Melton announced the formation of an exploratory committee in Gary Tuesday.

Sen. Eddie Melton (D-Gary) will announce Tuesday evening he’s exploring a bid for governor.

Melton is the first Democrat to take formal steps towards a 2020 gubernatorial run.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence made several stops in northern Indiana Thursday, the second day of  the "Start Your Engines" re-election campaign tour.

Pence appeared confident as he met with diners at Elkhart’s Mayberry Café. The incumbent GOP governor says he’s not concerned about Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump’s impact on his campaign.

State Sen. Karen Tallian, D-Portage, will face John Gregg in the 2016 Democratic primary.
