INDOT Hosts Public Hearing Over U.S. 20 Proposal

The Indiana Department of Transportation held a public hearing yesterday in New Carlisle, miles from an intersection officials say is one of the most dangerous in the state.

The plan calls for what’s known as a “dog bone” interchange, or two roundabouts to help redirect and slow down traffic on either side of a proposed bridge on the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and State Road 2, instead of the stoplight in currently in place.
 

Gov. Holcomb Announces Rail Safety Program

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb was in Chesterton yesterday to unveil new details for the Local Trax Rail Overpass Program.
 

The new program stems from the Next Level Roads plan. It’s aimed at both decreasing traffic congestion and increasing safety around railroads.

Governor Holcomb said at least $125 million dollars will be available in matching state funds for local communities that apply for the grant.

Indiana has not made a decision on whether to ban the ET-Plus guardrail heads.

INDOT was looking to Corridor Capital to take over hoping it could improve service on the Hoosier State Line, but negotiations ended abruptly last weekend.
