Metro Homicide

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has released information on a case that started in Goshen where a person fled from police. After a car chase that ended at Cleveland and Bittersweet in St. Joseph County, the man being pursued ditched the car and ran. Police say the suspect encountered an armed homeowner in the 11600 block of Anderson Road in Granger and was shot. The suspect was taken to the hospital.

The Metro Homicide Unit in St. Joseph County is investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred Tuesday night. It happened at Jefferson and Eddy and the car hit a tree at the intersection. The woman who was driving died. The male passenger who was also hit by gunfire survived. 

NEW: The St. Joseph Co. Prosecutor's Office has released new information indicating that 6-year-old Grace Ross died by asphyxiation. The 14-year-old suspect in the case remains in custody and will face a hearing March 22.

Metro Homicide is investigating after a Monday morning shooting left an 18-year-old dead. Investigators are seeking help from the public to locate two individuals for questioning in the case. The shooting happened early Monday morning on Liston Street.

Metro Homicide Investigating Infant Death

The Metro Homicide Unit in St. Joseph County is investigating the death of an infant. 

The St. Joseph Co. Metro Homicide Unit reports that a charge has been filed against a woman who shot at a man who she believed was stealing a car she had left running to warm up in South Bend on Tuesday night. The man died.

St. Joseph County has reported 40 homicides this year, more than any other year since the County Metro Homicide Unit began keeping track in 1993.

 

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter says Metro Homicide recorded more than double the number of homicides this year as compared with 2019.

It’s a dramatic jump, but Cotter says St. Joseph County isn’t alone in seeing an increase. 

“Homicides have substantially upticked throughout the United States, especially in areas that have larger populations,” Cotter said.

Metro Homicide Investigating Deadly Mishawaka Shooting

Metro Homicide in St. Joseph County is investigating a shooting that left a man dead in an apartment on Hickory Road in Mishawaka.

On Wednesday, December 09, 2020 at approximately 5:18 p.m. Mishawaka Police Officers and Mishawaka E.M.S. responded to 4532 Hickory Road, Mishawaka, IN concerning a report of a male who had suffered a single gunshot wound.

Metro Homicide Releases Info On Deadly Shooting

David Wells, the Asst. Cmdr. of the St. Joseph Co. Metro Homicide Unit, released information early Saturday morning regarding a gunshot victim driving himself to the hospital. The victim ultimately died.

The St. Joseph Co. Prosecutor's Office has released information regarding skeletal remains found over the weekend in a creek bed in the North Liberty area.


The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says a 16-year-old died following gunfire in South Bend Saturday evening.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office confirms that the Metro Homicide Unit now has identified a person of interest in the Chrisyah Stephens case. She was the 7-year-old girl who was killed in a drive-by shooting last month in South Bend as she attended another child's birthday party. 

UPDATE:

Today news of an arrest was made public following the weekend discovery of a woman who had been stabbed to death in South Bend. 

According to charging documents, the suspect had a history of domestic violence with the victim a "No Contact" order was in place.
