WVPE's latest Photo of the Week captures an icy image that the photographer took on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, in Shipshewana. Cyndi Holther of Sturgis was inspired to take this shot by laying on the cold sidewalk to get just the right angle. To quote her, "Brrr!" She calls the photo "Glass Houses."

Photo Of The Week - Cardinal In Winter

WVPE's latest Photo of the Week features a Northern Cardinal sitting in an ice-covered bush. Thanks to Larry Ford for sharing this image that he took on January 2nd in his back yard in Elkhart County just south of Elkhart. Larry says the bird's crest was raised and that it often sits in this bush if its mate is at the bird feeder. Larry says the male cardinal maintains a lookout for her.

This image of the Orr Mansion in LaPorte County comes to us courtesy of Paul Lawson. Paul says the mansion is on the outskirts of LaPorte. He describes it as a gorgeous goth mansion. It's that time of year to keep warm by the fire on autumn evenings. That is exactly what Stacie Cole of South Bend was doing at Howard Park last Friday night.  Stacie took a load off and put her feet up to soak it all in.

Another hummingbird photo is the pick for WVPE's latest Photo of the Week.   Thanks to Debbie Ray of South Bend for this image. Debbie says she has been in self-quarantine since March. She only sees neighbors and a few friends occasionally so she says she has "adopted these little guys." She took this picture as a hummingbird visited the bird feeder on her balcony on the south side of South Bend on September 5. She says the presence of the hummingbirds helps to make life more bearable for her during the pandemic.

Nelson is encouraging people to plant milkweed as a way to help monarch butterflies thrive. Monarch populations have been in decline due to farming, development and loss of habitat. Candice says that the day had been beautiful and then a little thunderstorm moved in before the return to sunshine which created the rainbow.
