Tuesday Michigan state lawmakers plan to consider legislation to help school districts that have to make up snow days. 

 

Severe weather and bitter cold forced many Michigan schools to exceed the number of allowable snow days this year.  A bill going before the Michigan House Education Committee would give school districts a break if the governor declares an emergency because of the weather.

 

Hundreds of school professionals met in Bloomington this week to focus on how they educate children – including their emotional and social needs – and organizers say the efforts could help Indiana make progress on key education issues.

Mishawaka Schools Look to Make Improvements

Mishawaka school leaders reviewed a Grade Level Study Report yesterday offering the school board options for improving education district wide.

Suggestions in the report include a greater focus on early learning, specifically by offering more early childhood activities for Mishawaka residents, which could include restructuring grade levels and even building another middle school, which bump sixth graders to middle school, allowing space for more early childhood programs in elementary schools.

South Bend Schools Approve Focus 2018 Plan

The South Bend School Corporation passed the Focus 2018: Design for the Future school plan yesterday with a unanimous vote. South Bend residents filled the meeting room for another opportunity to  voice concerns before school board members voted on the much scrutinized plan. Many parents expressed concern about how quickly the plan would make drastic changes across the school district.
