ELKHART, Ind. (AP) — Officials at a northern Indiana museum say it was "a very pleasant shock" that a 19th-century sculpture it had owned for more than 40 years ago recently sold at auction for $7.55 million, exceeding estimates for the work.

Six sculptures by University of Notre Dame professor, Rev. Austin Collins, have been installed in roundabouts in South Bend.

The university says it's a pilot public art program to add color and vibrancy to the city.

The sculptures are along Michigan Street at Bartlett and Marion streets on the north side and at Chippewa Avenue on the south side.

According to the university, the sculptures were installed by the city with support from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County.
