The Indiana State Police are investigating after a Marshall County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a suspect following a vehicle chase Sunday afternoon.

South Bend officials and community leaders held a press conference Wednesday calling for an end to gun violence after three people were shot and killed in the city in the past week.

Two people have now been charged in a South Bend shooting that involved a 4-year-old child. 

 

On Tuesday, Oct. 5, officers responded to an incident in the 1100 block of Queen Street where a child had been shot in the foot. An emaciated dog was also found at the scene.

 

The child’s mother and her boyfriend have both been charged with Level 3 and6 felonies for neglect of a dependent. The mother has also been charged with two Class A misdemeanors –  assisting a criminal and animal cruelty.

A suspect is in custody after two women were shot and killed outside of the NHK factory in Frankfort Wednesday afternoon.

Following back-to-back shootings in Elkhart earlier this month, Mayor Rod Roberson issued a video statement on Monday denouncing gun violence in the city.

 

Roberson extended the city’s condolences to the loved ones of the shooting victims, and encouraged community members to support one another.

One man was killed and four others were injured in a mass shooting early Sunday morning at Heritage Square in Granger.

In a news release, St. Joseph County Metro Homicide said a large crowd was attending a party at a bar in the complex when several shots were fired around 4 a.m. and five people were hit.

Four of them had what were described as non-life threatening injuries but the fifth, 26-year-old Victor Anthwan Kyle, Jr., died as a result of his injuries.

8 dead in shooting at rail yard serving Silicon Valley

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — An employee opened fire at a California rail yard serving Silicon Valley, killing eight people before ending his own life. Authorities say the shooting took place Wednesday in San Jose at a transit control center that stores trains and has a maintenance yard. Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Russell Davis said the suspect was an employee of the Valley Transportation Authority. It provides bus, light rail and other transit services throughout Santa Clara County, the most populated county in the Bay Area.

Second Juvenile Bald Eagle Fatally Shot In Western Indiana

SHELBURN, Ind. (AP) — Indiana conservation officers are investigating the second shooting death of a juvenile bald eagle in western Indiana this year. Officers located the second dead eagle in a rural area of northern Sullivan County about 8 miles west of the town of Shelburn.

A Colorado police officer killed while responding to a grocery store mass shooting was a Ball State University alumnus.  Eric Talley earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Muncie school.

Metro Homicide is investigating after a Monday morning shooting left an 18-year-old dead. Investigators are seeking help from the public to locate two individuals for questioning in the case. The shooting happened early Monday morning on Liston Street.

Metro Homicide is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred in South Bend this weekend. 

Today  the St. Joseph Co. Prosecutor's Office announced new developments in the shooting that took place last month at Central Park in Mishawaka. Charging documents indicated it was a marijuana drug deal gone wrong.

The St. Joseph Co. Metro Homicide Unit reports that a charge has been filed against a woman who shot at a man who she believed was stealing a car she had left running to warm up in South Bend on Tuesday night. The man died.

Appeals Court Orders New Trial In South Bend Boy's Slaying

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled a South Bend man should receive a new trial on a murder charge for allegedly providing the handgun another man used to fire a shot that killed a 2-year-old boy. The appeals panel ruled 2-1 last week that 22-year-old Tyre Bradbury should have his conviction thrown out because his attorneys were ineffective. Bradbury is serving a 60-year sentence after being convicted as an accomplice in the April 2014 death of 2-year-old John Swoveland Jr. as he played outside blocks away from a gang fight.

Metro Homicide in St. Joseph County is investigating a shooting that left a man dead in an apartment on Hickory Road in Mishawaka.

Knox Man Charged Following Thanksgiving Shooting

O'Neill Sentenced For On-Duty Sexual Encounter

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A white former South Bend police officer whose fatal shooting of a Black man roiled then-Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a charge related to an earlier on-duty sexual encounter. Forty-four-year-old Ryan O’Neill was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation after pleading guilty to ghost employment for a paid sex act with a woman while he was on duty in May 2019.

Two men are dead following a shooting at the Waterford Glen Apartments in South Bend last night. No suspects are in custody.

The two men who were killed last night have been identified by authorities as Malik Balderos, age 21, and Ricky Kinds Jr., age 20.

The parents of a 1-year-old boy who was shot to death earlier this year in South Bend by a gun accidentally fired by his 4-year-old sibling have been charged. The St. Joseph County prosecutor's office says Avion Sexton, Sr., and Eboni Hosea, both 23, were indicted on multiple neglect of a dependent and drug charges. Javion Sexton was slain June 18. Police are seeking Avion Sexton, Sr. Hosea was arraigned Thursday and released this week on bail. Her next court hearing is Nov. 5.  

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says a 16-year-old died following gunfire in South Bend Saturday evening.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office confirms that the Metro Homicide Unit now has identified a person of interest in the Chrisyah Stephens case. She was the 7-year-old girl who was killed in a drive-by shooting last month in South Bend as she attended another child's birthday party.

According to officials with the St. Joseph Co. Prosecutor's Office, Sunday evening Dazhon A. Howard, 21, of South Bend, turned himself in. He was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on an outstanding arrest warrant for the Sept. 17 murder and felony firearms charge filed in connection with a deadly shooting at the University Park Mall in Mishawaka. 

Delaney Crosby was allegedly killed by Howard. Howard was previously ordered held without bond and remains in custody at the St. JosephCounty Jail. He is scheduled to appear before a St. Joseph County Jail Magistrate Monday, September 28th, at 1:00 p.m. for his arraignment in South Bend. 

Victim Named In Shooting At University Park Mall In Mishawaka

Sunday the University Park Mall in Mishawaka was back open to the public, following a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man on Saturday inside the mall. Metro Homicide has made more new information about the mall shooting available, including the name of the victim. 

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has released information on an early morning shooting that has left one woman dead and another behind bars. 

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has released details of a late night shooting in Mishawaka.

A 9-year-old boy died in South Bend early Sunday morning from an apparent gunshot wound. New information released by officials indicates no adults were associated with the shooting. The discharge of the gunoccurred while juveniles were playing.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning, August 17th, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
