Gov. Eric Holcomb’s five-stage plan to get the state up and running again took its second step Monday with some businesses able to reopen their doors for the first time in more than a month. However, not all businesses are rushing to reopen.

Local non-profit and city officials gathered yesterday to cut the ribbon on South Bend’s new West Side Small Business Resource Center on Lincoln Way West. The center aims to nurture small business development on the city’s West Side.

Buttigieg Signs Responsible Bidding Ordinance

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg signed an ordinance yesterday passed by the Common Council on April 9th, which defines a “responsible bidder.”
 

The Responsible Bidding Ordinance is meant to protect taxpayer dollars as well as small businesses by making sure public works projects are completed efficiently and held to a high standard.
 

The tax on business equipment generates $1 billion a year for local governments.
