Voters in South Bend and Elkhart are choosing mayoral candidates in contested primaries.

Cities across the region have council vacancies and
voters in the Elkhart school district have a referendum on the ballot.

Terri Russ was voter number 85 at the precinct at Leeper Park today in South Bend.

She says she votes every chance she gets and thinks others should too.

“Well, this is where we live, right? So it can’t get more personal than this. And if we want a say in the future of South Bend and what happens in it we have to take advantage of this opportunity to have that voice,” Russ explains.

General elections for today’s contests are in November. Though the Elkhart Schools referendum will be decided today.

Polling locations are open until 6 this evening in Indiana.
