Enough Is Enough Joins Notre Dame Students Asking University To Filter Porn

A national organization is backing a group of University of Notre Dame students who are asking the school to filter pornography out of its WiFi.

The group of students had been circulating a petition for some time before Enough is Enough stepped in to amplify their voices.

Enough is Enough is a non-profit organization with the stated goal to make the internet safer for children and families.

The group has recently gotten press for an effort to get Starbucks to filter the WiFi at its stores.

They’re asking the University to filter pornography and child pornography out of its internet.

Donna Rice-Hughes is the President of Enough is Enough. “This type of content, having it readily available to anyone on campus is showing a lack of responsibility and oftentimes we find that corporate leaders and university leaders haven’t thought about the importance of making sure the WiFi that they are providing is safe.”

Rice-Hughes says the University has yet to respond to the petition.

Notre Dame Spokesperson Paul Browne said they have policies against using university equipment to access porn and they encourage students not to do so on personal computers.

“We recognize the good intentions behind this effort but we think there’s a simple solution: don’t use it.”

Browne said the university has assisted in the prosecution of those who have used its WiFi to download child pornography.

He said Notre Dame believes pornography is exploitive and not a victimless crime, but the school expects its students to self-filter.
