Schools report more than 30 new outbreaks as students head back to class

There were more than 30 new coronavirus outbreaks in Michigan’s schools in the last week. Most were in K-12 school buildings. Outbreaks are two or more COVID cases from different households who may have had a shared exposure to the virus.

The largest new reported outbreak included 23 connected cases among students and staff at Adams Elementary in Midland. There were 14 cases at Gladwin Elementary and 10 cases at Parker Middle School in Howell.

New outbreaks were also reported at Eastern Michigan University and Adrian College. The University of Michigan has the largest ongoing outbreak with more than 170 people affected.

Howell High School in Livingston County has the largest ongoing outbreak among K-12 schools.
