Mustard's Retreat and Matt Watroba Sing Songs of Hope, Love, and Community at Wild Rose Moon

Mustard's Retreat and Matt Watroba Sing Songs of Hope, Love, and Community at Wild Rose Moon

Michigan Songwriters Share Songs of Love, Hope, and Community
at Wild Rose Moon Performing Arts Center

“Ours is a simple faith. Life is a short embrace.
Heaven is in this place, every day . . .
Hope is the ground we till, make each day what you will.
Thankful for dreams fulfilled, every day.”

These words from the hope-filled song, Simple Faith, written by, David Tamulevich of the duo, Mustard’s Retreat, have been published in the much-revered compendium of folk songs, Rise Up Singing. The song was first recorded on the album, The Yellow Room Gang, Volume 1. Also on that album, was the noted songwriter, radio host, and educator, Matt Watroba. His beautiful song about breaking down hate, Could You Love Me?, asks the question, “Could you love me, if I don’t . . . think, look, or pray, like you?” It’s refrain includes the following:

“This moment is a miracle, so why not find a way,
To be here and be grateful, that we share another day.”

Both Matt and David, along with the talented singer, Libby Glover (the other half of Mustard’s Retreat) will be sharing their bridge-building songs of gratitude, faith, and peace-making at the Wild Rose Moon Performing Arts Center on Friday, November 10th, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $15 and can be purchased at ASK for Flowers, Culver Coffee Company, and wildrossemoon.com.

The evening will feature a shared 50-minute concert with all three performers followed by a live-taping of the Wild Rose Moon Radio Hour— which will be later broadcast on WVPE Public Radio 88.1 FM. The audience can expect a warm, fun night of participatory activity featuring easy to sing melodies and wonderful stories from all the performers’ unique careers. Both David and Matt have worked with a variety of wonderful performers including Townes Van Zandt, Pete Seeger, Peter Paul & Mary, John Gorka, Tom Paxton, Arlo Guthrie, Greg Brown, and Claudia Schmidt. Their connection to the Yellow Room Gang, a group of 8 songwriters who began meeting in David’s brightly-colored living room in Ann Arbor in 2005 is the stuff of folk legend. Their connection to the 50-year-old Ann Arbor ARK (a legendary folk club and listening room) runs even deeper. In these troubled times, their music is a sure recipe for what presently ails the human condition. The evening is generously underwritten by Peggy and Bob Sturtevant and Jennifer and David George.
