St. Joseph County Parks hosts eclipse event

St Joseph County parks and the Michiana Astronomical Society are holding an educational solar eclipse event this weekend.

The ‘Ready, Set, Eclipse!’ event at St. Patrick’s County Park is geared toward grade school kids with a presentation and a hands-on activity to make a pinhole projector.

Amal Farrough is a Naturalist with St. Joseph County Parks. She said a representative from the Astronomical Society will kick off the day.

“We’ll start with a presentation with some information about eclipses, what they are, how they work, how often they happen.”

Farrough said the presentation is what she’s most excited about.

“The part that I’m most excited about is, first of all, learning a bit about how eclipses work. I know it’s a very rare event but I’m excited that our guest from the Michiana Astronomical Society will be able to share her expertise with us about eclipses.”

Farrough said they will also have eclipse viewing glasses for sale and sunshine themed snacks for the kids.

The event is full but there are eclipse viewing events across the area on the 21st including at Central Park in Elkhart and at St.Joseph County Public Library.
