Fred Upton (R-Mich 6) narrowly kept his seat after Tuesday’s Midterm.
Upton called his victory a bit earlier than his Democratic challenger was willing to; at 12:30 in the morning with 80 percent of precincts reporting and a narrow two and a half point lead Upton spoke to supporters at Shadowland in St. Joe.
“I know it’s been a long night, and I gotta say that we are very pleased with the results. We are very glad that it’s over, it’s been a long year, that is for sure.”
With high voter turnout across the country, Upton said he was glad for the number of people that went out and voted.
“It’s a good thing. We want an educated electorate. We want people to turn out. We want people to weigh in and to me, if had been any less people I would have been disappointed.”
Upton will return to congress to serve his 17th term. He was first elected in 1986.
He said he will continue to seek bipartisan results on the issues that matter to Michiganders like the economy, jobs and the Great Lakes.
