Get To Know Your Down Ballot Candidates

IPBS News

There are less than two weeks left before election day and there are still a couple of chances for voters to get out and meet the people who are going to be on their ballot.

Elkhart voters will have a chance Thursday night at the IUSB center in Elkhart to meet their candidates for school board, and hear a debate between candidates for the 21st district in the Indiana House.

There’s also a final meet the candidates event for St. Joseph County candidates and voters on Monday evening at the South Bend branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library.

Elizabeth Bennion is one of the event organizers. She said these down ballot candidates have a lot of power in local issues.

“There are all kinds of issues that people really deeply care about in their communities and these are issues that those councils and commissioners will actually control.”

These events are sponsored by a combination of local organizations; the League of Women Voters, the American Democracy Project, the Indiana Black Expo, the Elkhart Chapter of the NAACP, the St. Joseph County Public Library and IUSB.

Indiana Voters can check their registration status and look at their ballot ahead of time at the Indiana Voters Website.

Michigan voters can do the same on the Secretary of State's website.
