Police Community Review Board

South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski has exonerated Patrolman Sam Chaput's handling of a 14-year-old girl outside the downtown McDonald's in an August incident that drew heavy media attention.

The South Bend Community Police Review Board has taken more than four years to launch.

The city of South Bend started forming the office and review board in 2020 in the wake of the George Floyd murder. It has taken four years for the city to hire a director and for the common council to appoint and train nine community members to review police misconduct allegations.
