A Purdue University agricultural economist says wind turbines are lucrative for farmers but politics, aesthetics and relationships with neighbors also drive decisions on whether to lease.

UKA Group, based in Germany with a North American headquarters in Florida, recently sent a letter to farm owners in southern St. Joseph County, asking their interest in leasing parts of their land for wind towers.

Both bills passed unanimously and no one spoke in opposition.
