Michigan Has More Than 5,000 Deaths Related To COVID-19

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The number of Michigan deaths from COVID-19 has crossed 5,000. The state health department says the death toll rose by 102 to 5,017, although 43 of the newly recorded deaths could have occurred days or weeks ago. It can take time to match death certificates to confirmed cases. The number of new coronavirus infections rose less than 1% statewide to 52,350. More than 28,000 people have recovered since March. In southeastern Michigan, some Catholic churches opened their doors for public Mass for the first time in two months.

Indiana Reports 46 More Dead; Statewide Total Tops 1,700

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) — Indiana health officials say 46 more Indiana residents have died from coronavirus illnesses, putting the state's pandemic death toll from confirmed or presumed cases of coronavirus above 1,700. According to data from the Indiana State Department of Health, most of the newly confirmed deaths occurred Thursday and Friday. Statewide, 27,280 people in Indiana have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. That includes 656 additional people whose testing results were confirmed Friday.

Indiana Coronavirus Death Toll Grows Past 1,600 People

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana's coronavirus death toll has grown past 1,600 people as state health officials have added 41 fatalities involving confirmed or probable infections to the tally. The latest state statistics list 1,482 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, along with 137 deaths considered coronavirus-related by doctors but without confirmation of the illness from test results. The state health department says more than two dozen additional testing sites opened Wednesday around Indiana as part of the state's expanded coronavirus testing program.

Michigan Reports Coronavirus Death Toll Reaches 4,551

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan officials have reported 25 additional coronavirus-related deaths, increasing the state's outbreak death toll to 4,551 people. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Sunday also reported 382 more cases of COVID-19 infections been confirmed. That brings the statewide total to 47,138 people with confirmed coronavirus cases. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Thursday extended Michigan's stay-at-home order through May 28, though manufacturers may go back to work Monday. Bars and restaurants have asked to be allowed to reopen May 29.

 

Indiana's Confirmed, Presumed Virus Death Toll Tops 1,500

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — State health officials say Indiana’s death toll from confirmed or presumed coronavirus illnesses has topped 1,500 people. The Indiana State Department of Health on Sunday reported 17 newly confirmed COVID-19 deaths that occurred between Wednesday and Saturday, along with one additional death considered coronavirus related by doctors but without confirmation of the illness from test results.

New information from the St. Joseph County Health Dept. indicates that as of today, the county’s total number of confirmed cases is at 294. County health officials are also confirming a sixth death related to COVID-19 infection. The patient, a female in her fifties, had several co-morbidities.
