Indiana’s first openly gay major party candidate for governor announced his bid Monday.

Indianapolis tech entrepreneur Josh Owens will seek the Democratic nomination.

Josh Owens is the CEO of SupplyKick, an Indianapolis-based online retailer. The 34-year-old, who’s never before run for elected office, announced he’s filed for governor.

Veterans’ military pensions will be 100 percent exempt from Indiana’s income tax in the next four years. And the state is using that to recruit retiring servicemembers to Indiana.

Gov. Eric Holcomb pushed lawmakers to exempt military pensions from the income tax for years. In 2019, he finally got his wish. It will ultimately cost Indiana nearly $15 million per year in revenue when the pensions are fully exempt. Holcomb says it’s a major recruiting tool.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb is heading into the 2020 campaign season with $6 million to spend on a probable re-election bid thanks to the leverage of leading a GOP-dominated state and no high-profile Democrats yet vying to unseat him.

The 2019 legislative session’s first half ended as the House passed the budget, the Senate approved a major gaming bill, and Gov. Eric Holcomb stood firm on hate crimes.
