Thousands of Indiana students have been sent home to quarantine, often for a week or more, during the past month as a precaution in the ongoing pandemic. It's a response that is again raising concern over student learning outside the classroom. And school districts worry if students are in remote learning for too long, they could lose state funding.

An entire school district in southern Indiana has gone virtual until later this month because of an outbreak of COVID-19 cases. It's one of several areas experiencing disruptions caused by COVID-19 cases found in schools as a new academic year begins.

Buttigieg To Quarantine After Security Agent Gets COVID-19

WASHINGTON (AP) — Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will quarantine for 14 days after a member of his security detail tested positive Monday for the coronavirus. The Transportation Department said in a statement Monday that the agent had been "in close contact" with Buttigieg including Monday morning prior to the agent's positive result. Buttigieg has since tested negative and has had no symptoms. According to the department, Buttigieg received the first dose of the vaccination in recent weeks, and will receive the second dose when his quarantine is completed.

Most teachers and students won’t have to quarantine anymore after a positive COVID-19 case in the classroom. That’s according to new guidance from the Indiana Department of Health.

Indiana House Speaker Quarantining With COVID-19 Infection

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The top lawmaker in the Indiana House has tested positive for COVID-19 and has had mild symptoms of the respiratory disease. The office of Republican House Speaker Todd Huston says he received the test result on Wednesday and is quarantining at home. His office says Huston hasn't been at the Statehouse within the past week or had recent contact with other legislators or legislative staffers. The Legislature is scheduled to begin its 2021 session on Jan. 4.

Gov. Holcomb Ends His Two Week Quarantine

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s governor has ended a quarantine that started two weeks ago after several members of his security detail were confirmed infected with the coronavirus. Gov. Eric Holcomb's spokeswoman said Tuesday that he has resumed his normal schedule and not experienced any symptoms of the respiratory disease. The governor and first lady Janet Holcomb both tested negative for COVID-19 on Nov. 20. He also tested negative for COVID-19 in mid-October after State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box announced she and some family members were infected.

Indiana Gov. Holcomb In Quarantine

NEW (Nov. 18): In spite of being in quarantine, Gov. Holcomb participated by phone in the weekly Indiana COVID-19 update. He said that so far he and his wife who is also in quarantine are feeling fine. However, he says that some of the members of his security detail who tested positive are displaying symptoms.

South Bend Community School Corp.n

The South Bend Community School Corporation has announced that two schools will now be online only until after Thanksgiving due to large numbers of staff having to quarantine. The schools impacted are Lincoln Elementary and the Dickinson Fine Arts Academy.

Goshen Community Schools has announced that the high school girls basketball teams have been put under quarantine.

Mandatory Quarantine Ordered For 23 MSU Greek Houses

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A county has ordered a two-week quarantine for 23 fraternities and sororities and seven large rental houses near Michigan State University following a coronavirus outbreak that a local health official says is turning into a “crisis.” The quarantine, which is mandatory, means students or others living in the buildings cannot leave except for medical care or necessities that cannot be delivered. Ingham County Heath Officer Linda Vail said Monday that the surge in cases is alarming. Vail acted two days after she urged all MSU students living locally to voluntarily self-quarantine for 14 days.  

IU Quarantines Members Of Some Greek Houses

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana University says members of eight Greek houses and students living in two other houses off the Bloomington campus have been ordered to quarantine because of positive COVID-19 tests. IU said Thursday it has directed all of the affected houses, including the Evans Scholars and Christian Student Fellowship houses, to suspend in-person organizational activities, other than dining and housing for live-in members, until at least Sept. 14. No IU residence halls are included in these measures.

Fort Wayne-South Bend Bishop Quarantines After Exposure

Nearly 9 percent of students at a Delaware County school district have been quarantined after a single case of COVID-19 has been confirmed.

About 2,600 students attend Delaware Community Schools, which began in-person classes last Thursday.  Officials say a football player at Delta High School is the district’s only official positive COVID case.

St. Joseph County health officials report that a death has occurred at the Motel 6 in Roseland that is being used to isolate homeless individuals with COVID-19.

St. Joseph County- The City of South Bend and St. Joseph County Department of Health are confirming that a guest at the Isolation Quarantine Center (IQC), located at the Motel 6 on N. Dixie Way, was found deceased today.


NEW: Nine St. Joe Co. officers are out of quarantine following the arrest of a subject who was suspected of possibly have COVID-19. The test on the arrest subject came back negative so the officers are now back on duty.
