After the Pitbull concert at Four Winds Field in South Bend was cancelled in June and rescheduled for tonight, it provided an opportunity for Joe Ruiz and his band, Rhymer/Educator.  The teacher by day, rapper by night from LaPorte will be the opening act tonight. Many of you may have first become acquainted with Joe back in May when WVPE featured him as a local contestant in NPR's annual Tiny Desk Contest. Although he didn't win the contest, his group Rhymer/Educator went on to open for Vanilla Ice last month in LaPorte.

Back in May WVPE introduced you to a local artist who had entered NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. Rhymer/Educator did not win, but he did pay it forward into a contest of his own.

Teacher by day and rapper by night, Joe Ruiz, may not have won NPR's Tiny Desk Contest - but it has given him a big break. He and his fellow musicians in Rhymer/Educator will open for Vanilla Ice July 14th at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds.
