Middlebury opens new trail

A new trail that connects Das Essenhaus, Greencroft and the school campuses opened Saturday in Middlebury.

The 1.5 mile, mixed-use trail connects to some of Middlebury’s existing trails. They now make a full 5K loop.

Tom Enright, director of Middlebury Parks and Recreation, said the trail system is a draw for people to get outside and explore the town.

“That’s what families are looking for. They’re looking for areas to move into that have something that can get them outdoors, can get them physical activity and the connectivity, being off the road, safety and it connects to some of our parks so that’s what families are looking for.”

Enright said the trail has already gotten some use with Middlebury’s trailfest activities this month.

“We’re just hopeful that this trail will be well-used, which it already has been, and that people will really enjoy it and come to either visit Middlebury or decide to come here and raise their families.”

Those events raise money for the maintenance of existing trails and plans for new ones.
