The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan to Hold Open House at New Facility

The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan is holding an open house this weekend to show off their new shelter.

The 13,000 square foot Yeager Family Pet Shelter at 5400 Niles Road in St. Joseph was built specifically for the Humane Society. It replaces a much smaller facility in Benton Harbor that the shelter had been in since 1960.

The new building was funded through private donations. It features separate wings for cats and dogs, air exchange systems, education and training rooms, and dedicated veterinary areas with quarantine space.

There will be a ribbon cutting at noon on Saturday followed by an open house with tours of the facility.
