Goshen Council To Consider Smoking, Vaping Ban

Goshen City Council will vote tonight on an ordinance that would put stricter regulations on where in the city people can smoke and vape.

The ordinance would add e-cigarettes to the current smoking ban, increase the distance from public entrances where people can smoke and vape and add outdoor dining areas and public parks to the ban.

City Council member Julia Gautsche said she thinks the ordinance will ultimately pass.

“I think some ordinance will pass and whatever we pass tonight and on the fourth will be better than what we currently have.”

Currently, Goshen’s ban does not go further than state law.

Gautsche said she also supports banning smoking and vaping in bars, but there is less consensus on that among the council.

This is the first reading of the new ordinance. Gautsche said it will likely be discussed and amended. The final vote on the ordinance will be on September fourth.

The Council meeting is Tuesday at 7 in the Police and Courts Building.
