The Running Wild 5K Run is professionally chip-timed with disposable chips on park wooded and open field trails, park roads, grass, and gravel. The 5K event includes awards for the top 3 finishers in each age category. The 3K Wacky Scavenger Hunt Walk is on similar, relatively flat surfaces. Dogs are allowed, on a 6-ft. leash, for the WALK ONLY. Individuals or families with leashed dogs will begin at the back of the walk start. Egg bake breakfast with fresh fruit and our famous homemade granola cookies for registered participants. Terrific door prizes donated by local vendors and the St. Joseph County Parks Foundation and Friends of Bendix Woods and Spicer Lake! (Must be present to win.) This year's hand-crafted participant medallion features a Bald Eagle (one per registered participant, while supply lasts).

This event is one in a series of monthly presentations sponsored by the Elkhart Police Department - Community Relations Bureau. Presentations are made by various departments which include Elkhart Police Dept., Elkhart Fire Dept., Support Services of the Elkhart Police Dept., and Elkhart County Health Dept. Various safety topics presented include Firearm safety, Fraud/Scams, Smoking/Vaping, Fireworks, Domestic Violence, Senior Safety, Bicycle safety, Home Safety, Online Dating and many more. Each month presentations are at a different location. Sept. 10 - Walker Park Pav., Oct. 10 - McNaughton Park Pav., Nov. 12 - High Dive Pav. and Dec. 10 - Pierre Moran Pav.

Grab your American flag and join us on 9/11 this year as we walk to commemorate and remember those we lost that day and our heroes. We will visit local fire stations on our walk to thank our local first responders. This is a walk unlike anything you've seen in this area.

Miller Sr. Veteran's Center and the National Anthem, performed by Dena Benham, Director of Customer Experience, Hubbard Hill. Additional performers: Forever Learning’s Solid Silver Dancers, Island Breeze Steel Drum, and Michael Jon DeHays, Imphormal Cello.
