Benton Harbor's Orchards Mall looking for a rally

The Orchards Mall in Benton Harbor is gaining new tenants under new management, while still apparently struggling to keep up with taxes and maintenance.

The Orchards Mall is losing one of it’s two remaining anchor stores. Carson’s will leave in the next few months, leaving just J.C. Penney.

The mall just paid its tax bill for 2015, the parking lot is riddled with potholes and visually the mall looks stuck in the 90s. Malls in general have been on the decline since shopping went online.

But Ed Moore the The Orchard’s general manager, said he’s working towards a rally. He’s signed new tenants and is bringing events to the mall.

“My goal is to create a bigger foot traffic. Right now it’s not as busy as I’d like it to be but it has definitely started to get busier since I’ve taken over.”

The space will host a craft show next weekend, and a pet expo, circus and indoor farmers market over the summer.

Moore also said they have the materials to patch the numerous potholes in the parking lot and will be doing so as soon as weather permits.
