Benton Harbor Area Schools Adds Family Resource Room

Benton Harbor parents now have a place to go to get help with their kids and be directed to other local, state and federal programs for services.

The Family Resource Center is a classroom at the high school. It’s walls are painted gray and covered in inspirational artwork. Donated furniture and computers, and parenting books fill the room.

Traci Burton is Family and Community Coordinator at BHAS. She said the idea is to help parents help their kids.

“We have a solid team here at Benton Harbor that is committed to doing things different this year. Really looking at those innovative ways that we can reach our families, reach our students and impact our community.”

In the future the room will be used for classes and workshops. Burton said the programs they run will depend on what parents need.

The room will be open and staffed from 4 to 9 weekday evenings. Burton said they plan on adding weekend hours soon.
