Twenty-three inmates and two jailers tested positive for COVID-19 in the Pulaski County Jail.  The jail is in Winamac 30 miles north of Logansport.

Sheriff Jeffrey Richwine said the first positive cases were reported September 10th.  He says more testing will be done at the jail Friday, and inmates who tested positive are being held in separate cell blocks.

They are also being served meals in their cells, rather than in common areas, the sheriff said.  Inmates are being let out of their cells only for an hour a day for recreation and at staggered times to avoid spreading the virus.

Richwine said none of those who tested positive are showing serious signs of illness.  He said the jail held a vaccination clinic this summer, but very few inmates have agreed to be vaccinated.

Richwine adds that any inmate who wants to be vaccinated can get the shot while they’re in jail.  The local hospital is providing anti-body treatments for anyone who needs it.
