Homeless shelters across Michigan expect to be full again Thursday evening as there’s one more night of bitter cold temperatures in the forecast.

Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan operates shelters in Saginaw and Bay City. The shelters house dozens of single men and families.

Spokeswoman Marcia Reeves says overall they’ve weathered the cold snap well.

“We’ve had three days of children being out of school. So we’re getting low on cereal,” Reeves says with a smile.

Reeves says their shelters are well stocked, though they could use cold and other over the counter medicines. She adds monetary donations are always appreciated.

‘Cabin Fever’ appears to be a rising issue in the shelters. Adults and children have spent several long days and nights in the shelters this week and they are looking forward to getting back outside.

This weekend’s forecast rapid warm-up is expected ease demands on Michigan’s homeless shelters.    Temperatures are expected to reach into the 40’s by Sunday.
