Michigan’s jobless rate is hanging below 4 percent.
Michigan’s November unemployment rate remained unchanged from the previous month at 3.9 percent. The nation’s jobless rate was also flat last month.
The state’s unemployment rate is down nearly a full percentage point from a year ago.
Job losses in manufacturing, education and health services in November were offset by job gains in the construction, financial and government sectors.
“Michigan’s labor market situation was steady in November,” said Jason Palmer, director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives. “However, since June 2018, the state jobless rate fell by half a percentage point and Michigan added about 11,000 payroll jobs.”
Outgoing Gov. Rick Snyder praised the numbers and noted that when he was elected eight years ago Michigan’s jobless rate was more than 11 percent.
“I wanted to spur job creation, reinvent our state, and help make Michigan a place where families could build a successful life,” says Snyder, “I am proud of what has been accomplished and the unemployment rate being at its lowest rate in 18 years.”
