South Bend Using New Technology For Leaf Pickup Program

Annacaroline Caruso/WVPE News

The City of South Bend began its 2019 Fall ReLeaf Program Monday. Some new technology is making it easier for residents to track the leaf pickup.

City crews are aiming to make two rounds of leaf pickup - covering each neighborhood twice. This is weather dependant.

Residents can look at an interactive map on the City’s website to see the status of leaf pickup on different streets.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg said this new technology will help the process go smoothly.

“I’m really proud of the way the department and City workers have refined this program year by year using technology and using a lot of strong planning to make the absolute most of these short weeks we have in order to get all the leaves up.”

Residents should make sure the leaf piles are free of large sticks, raked to the curb, and not blocked by cars.

Leaf pickup will run through Wednesday, Nov. 27th.
