UPDATE: Metro Homicide involved in SB fatal fire investigation

UPDATE: An autopsy was conducted this weekend in Fort Wayne for Phyllis Swihart, 88. A forensic pathologist determined her cause of death to be thermal injuries and soot inhalation. There appeared to be no outward trauma. However, the manner of death is pending toxicology results. The investigation into the fire is still ongoing. ORIGINAL POST:The St.Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit (CMHU) is assisting the South Bend Fire Department in its investigation into Friday morning’s house fire in the 900 block of Stanfield, South Bend. CMHU will be attending the autopsy of Phyllis Swihart, 88, which is scheduled for Saturday in Fort Wayne to establish her cause of death.
