Philip Ewing is an election security editor with NPR's Washington Desk. He helps oversee coverage of election security, voting, disinformation, active measures and other issues. Ewing joined the Washington Desk from his previous role as NPR's national security editor, in which he helped direct coverage of the military, intelligence community, counterterrorism, veterans and more. He came to NPR in 2015 from Politico, where he was a Pentagon correspondent and defense editor. Previously, he served as managing editor of Military.com, and before that he covered the U.S. Navy for the Military Times newspapers.

Kent Fulmer joined WVPE in August of 2020 to take on one of the station's most high profile roles as the local host of Morning Edition. Kent comes to WVPE with more than 20 years experience in radio in the Michiana area. During his career, Kent has had a variety of roles including DJ, reporter and newscaster, as well as several behind-the-scenes positions. Kent and his wife, Donna, are celebrating their 32nd wedding anniversary in 2020 and have lived in Elkhart County for almost 20 years. They have two adult daughters, Sarah and Rebecca. When not working, Kent is active as a musician, playing trumpet and flugelhorn. He has performed with a number of area bands. Currently he performs with the Phat Tuesday Dixieland Band and Jazz Assemblage, as well as his church's praise band. As a member of Jazz Assemblage, Kent has appeared at the Elkhart Jazz Festival several times. He also volunteers with Bugles Across America.

Mike joined WVPE in January of 2025. Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana he has spent the last 13 years working around the Michiana area at other radio broadcasting companies mainly behind the scenes. When he's not in the office you can usually find Mike at home blaring music from his office, yelling obscenities over the internet at strangers on his trusty Xbox or simply enjoying his time at home with his lovely wife Tracy and their little zoo of 4 cats and 2 dogs.

Shelli has been with WVPE since 2021 and is the News Director and local host of All Things Considered. She has been working in radio longer than she cares to admit, but has been in local radio in the area for over 20 years. Shelli has worked in Charlotte, NC, Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY and Long Island, NY at both music and news stations. Michiana, however, is home. (She grew up in Coloma). Shelli is married to Mark and they live in happy chaos with five dogs and a noisy parakeet in Granger. When not working, she is probably in the middle of a Netflix binge, reading, or thinking of the next way to spoil her granddaughter.

After celebrating my 29th Anniversary on 'the Back Porch' on Father's Day 2015 it struck me.. I've been there for almost half my lifetime....returning home for 2 weeks at a stretch to raise my family and work as a heavy equipment operator the rest of the time. Living in the country near the Middlebury area keeps me grounded in the simplistic style I try to convey with the music I share. I've thoroughly enjoyed the many years of bringing the music to our listeners and meeting many of them in the most unexpected places and times. The continued arrival of fresh new music from many artists brings me joy especially when I can share it with you. Over the years my musical tastes have changed somewhat but I try to remain true to the acoustic sounds one might expect to hear from friends sitting around on a back porch with plenty of instruments nearby.
