The YMCA of Greater Michiana will lease the third and fourth floors of this building, the Leighton Healthplex, at 111 W. Jefferson Boulevard downtown South Bend. The Y plans to open in early June.

YMCA launching child care center downtown South Bend

YMCA CEO Mark Weber says their child care center serving St. Joseph and Benton Harbor is full, and he says downtown South Bend lacks a high-quality child care option for downtown workers.

The city recently acquired the building from Beacon Health System as part of a land swap to enable Beacon's planned $150 million apartments, hotel and retail project near Memorial Hospital.
