All WVPE listener counties have maintained their color status from last week on Indiana’s COVID-19 tracking map, except for one.

Nearly all WVPE listener counties are now in the “orange” category on the state’s COVID-19 tracking map, and one has returned to the most serious “red” category.

St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaPorte and Starke counties all moved to the “orange” category this week, which indicates high spread of the virus. They join Pulaski, Marshall and Kosciusko counties, which all maintained their orange status from last week.

For the first time since February, the Indiana Department of Health’s COVID-19 tracking map is showing a county in “red,” which indicates unchecked community spread of the coronavirus. That’s Posey County, in the southwestern corner of the state.

The number of Indiana counties in more serious color categories more than doubled this week on the state’s color-coded COVID-19 tracking map.

Indiana is seeing an increase in coronavirus cases, and two WVPE listener counties have moved to the “yellow” category, indicating moderate spread of the virus, on the state’s COVID-19 tracking map.

 

Both Fulton and LaGrange counties are now in the “yellow,” with Fulton receiving an extra alert due to a large number of weekly cases being traced back to close proximity gatherings. All other WVPE listener counties remain in the “blue.”

However, almost three times as many counties are now in the more serious “yellow” category as compared to last week.

The latest update to Indiana’s COVID-19 tracking map still shows the majority of counties in Northern Indiana in the more serious “orange” and “yellow” color categories.

Four counties in the WVPE listening area are in the orange category, which indicates high spread of the virus. LaPorte, Elkhart and LaGrange counties all maintained their orange status from last week, while Starke County moved to the orange from the less serious yellow category.

57 cases of the UK variant have been detected in Indiana according to Indiana Health Commissioner,Dr. Kris Box. A case was just found in Elkhart County.

NEW: Gov. Eric Holcomb just announced Indiana has lowered the age eligibility threshold for getting the COVID-19 vaccine to age 50 as of today. 

Hoosiers can visit https://ourshot.in.gov and select a location from one of nearly 400 clinics around the state.

Holcomb announces he is getting his vaccination this Friday. Holcomb also says that based on an announcement from the Biden administration, teachers will be able to get vaccinated through the federal pharmacy program.
