USPS Holiday shipping deadlines approach

USPS

Holiday postal and shipping deadlines are coming up this week and next.

Different types of mail have different shipping deadlines with the U.S. postal service, but in general, if you try to send it after December 20th, it’s not going to make it for Christmas.

Jason Scholten is the postmaster in Elkhart. He said there are a few important days to remember, whether you’re sending your yearly Christmas letter, toys to the grandkids, or cookies to a service member.

“The most important ones are going to be December 19th for first class mail. December 16th is first class packages and then any parcels heavier than that or that you choose to send priority, that’s December 20th.”

International and military deadlines vary depending on where your holiday cheer is going.

Scholten said they’ve had an uptick of packages passing through as internet shopping booms, but there are people working from midnight to 8 pm every day.

He said mail shipped by the deadline will make it. Presumably, come rain, or snow, or sleet, or gloom of night.
