South Bend PD hosts non-ballistic weapons training

South Bend Police Department

The South Bend Police Department is hosting a non-ballistic weapons self-defense class on Thursday and Friday.

Participants to the training will learn how to identify and use everyday items like t-shirts, flashlights and pens as weapons against an attacker.

Chris Brady is with the South Bend Police Department. He says the training is meant to be very practical.

“Hopefully it’s giving them them a basic understanding of how to defend themselves using these improvised weapons should the situation arise.”

The training is given by ex-CIA protection expert Steve Tarani. He has given other defense trainings and South Bend PD before.

Registration is requiredfor the class. It will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the South Police Station.
