Goshen Bridges open for walking event

On Wednesday Goshen residents will be able to walk over and explore three newly built overpass bridges before they open to vehicle traffic.

The bridges will allow traffic in Goshen to flow better around the myriad train crossings. They go over the Marion Line, the big four railroad tracks and Lincoln Avenue.

The walk was the brainchild of Goshen resident Brent Rheinheimerwho brought the idea to Mayor Jeremy Stutsman.

“We thought it was a great idea and a way for everybody to kinda see what had been done. You know, it’s not a pedestrian bridge so it’ll be one of the only times you’ll be able to walk over this bridge and we just thought it was a great way for the community to see where their money was going.”

The mayor and Rheinheimer will kick off the walk with a public address at 5 p.m. Then the bridges will be open to walkers.

Participants are asked to park at Goshen High School. There will be an police officer assisting with pedestrian traffic across Lincolnway East.

The bridges are expected to be open for south bound vehicle traffic around the end of this week and for north bound traffic in the next few weeks.
