University Of Notre Dame Marching Band Welcomes New School Year

Annacaroline Caruso

The University of Notre Dame marching band welcomed the new school year Thursday morning with their annual march-out.

About 380 students participated in the campus-wide march. Some were returning band members and others were auditioning for a spot on the Band of the Fighting Irish.

Harrison Lacy is the head drum major for the 2019 school year. He wants the band to perform at every event with the same enthusiasm they would have on game day.

“I want to inspire people to bring the same energy on day one as the last day of the season," Lacy said. We get better every year but I think if we can just keep bringing the energy later and later into the season, we’ll do some amazing things.”
Lacy also says the marching band feels like his family at Notre Dame. They plan on keeping as many people as the band directors allow, but they don’t have an exact number yet.
