Ground Broken On New Robinson Community Learning Center

Annacaroline Caruso

The University of Notre Dame with support from the City of South Bend broke ground Monday on the new Robinson Community Learning Center.

The Robinson Community Learning Center is a space where South Bend residents can take classes, join clubs, and listen to lectures.

The new and larger center will replace the existing one. The space has upgrades like more windows, a technology lab, and a theatre space.

Jennifer Knapp Beudert is the manager of RCLC. She said the positive relationships people form at the center have lasting impacts on their lives.

“Some of the kids start with us when they’re six and stay with us until they graduate high school," Knapp Beudert said. "They become involved in the life of the center and we become involved in their lives and sharing a love of our community and learning in general. I think it’s a pretty wonderful place. ”

The new facility will be more than 12,000 square feet. Knapp Beudert says it will better accommodate the roughly 600 people who use the center each week.

It will be located on Eddy Street across from the current Robinson Community Learning Center and is set to be completed in 2020.
