St. Joseph Co. Adult Probation Official Charged With Multiple Crimes

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor has charged Raymontow R. Davis, an employee of the St. Joseph County Adult Probation Department, for allegedly taking money from a parolee he was in charge of monitoring.

Davis allegedly offered to swap "clean urine" for the parolee in exchange for $150. Davis faces charges of bribery and official misconduct. 

Here is the information the prosecutor's office released:  

St. Joseph County –Yesterday evening at approximately 6:15 p.m., investigators with the St. Joseph County Drug Investigation Unit (DIU) arrested Raymontow Davis, 34, in the County-City building and subsequently booked him into the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary suspicion of Bribery, a Level 5 Felony, and Official Misconduct, a Level 6 Felony. Mr. Davis, an employee of St. Joseph County Adult Probation and a public servant tasked with administering drug tests, allegedly attempted to obtain a cash bribe in exchange for falsifying test results.
 
 
His arrest was the culmination of a DIU investigation, with cooperation from the Adult Probation department.

Today the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office filed a two-count information against Mr. Davis in St. Joseph County Superior Court. Specifically he is charged with Bribery, a Level 5 Felony, and Official Misconduct, a Level 6 Felony.

Probable cause was found. Mr. Davis was ordered held without bond until his initial hearing and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail. His initial hearing and arraignment are scheduled for tomorrow, August 29th, at 1:00 p.m. (Traffic & Misdemeanor Courtroom, 1855 Courthouse, 112 S. Lafayette Blvd, South Bend).

The sentencing range for a Level 5 Felony is one to six years. The sentencing range for a Level 6 Felony is 1⁄2-2 1⁄2 years.

In light of this investigation, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, with cooperation from the Adult Probation Department, will be re-reviewing all of Mr. Davis’ cases that might have been affected since he started his employment with the Adult Probation Department in January 2019.
