Bicyclist Critically Injured After Crash With Car In South Bend

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has released information about a crash that critically injured a cyclist.

The release in its entirety is below.

St. Joseph County –Yesterday evening, September 26th, at approximately 8:18 p.m., South Bend Police Department (SBPD) officers were dispatched to Linden Ave. and Edison Ave, South Bend, in response to a car vs. bicyclist crash. SBPD arrived shortly after the dispatch and determined the bicyclist, identified as Dylan Robert Frederick Mayers, 19, of South Bend, was seriously injured. The medics arrived on scene and transported him to the hospital.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) was activated, per protocol, to handle the investigation.

A car was traveling westbound on Linden Ave and hit Mr. Mayers as he rode his bicycle westbound on Linden along the north side of the street. The 42 year old female driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

As of the time of this email, Mr. Mayers was last known to be in critical condition with head and internal injuries in the ICU. The FACT investigation is active and ongoing, and toxicology results are pending.
