The City of Elkhart is having several community meetings over the next few weeks. This is part of a strategy to encourage communication between residents and city officials.

There will be six meetings in the next three weeks, one in each council district. Each is meant to be an opportunity for residents to meet city leaders.

Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson said these community meetings are just one part of his plan to get the community more involved in city decision making.

“The best way for us to be in front of a bigger problem and be forward looking is to have the input from our resident base. We want to pivot towards this, to be of help and service to our community.”

Roberson hopes to have another batch of community meetings in the near future.

The city is also testing out a new app to make it easier and more convenient for Elkhart residents to contact city officials for things like filing a police tip or requesting a code inspection.

The app is set to be released in late March but people who attend the community meetings will get a chance to try it early.

The first meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mary Daly Elementary Library. Thursday is the second meeting and it will be at Beardsley Elementary.
