The man accused of holding five people hostage at a Mishawaka home last December and shooting at SWAT officers has been found guilty on all counts.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office says Chad Bean, 54, was convicted on all 14 counts Friday, after a weeklong jury trial. Counts included criminal confinement, stalking and attempted murder.
Police say the incident began December 20, when Bean arrived at the home of a woman he’d been seeing. He eventually held three adults and two children hostage throughout the night, police said, before eventually releasing everyone but the woman.
When SWAT officers tried to enter the following afternoon, Bean reportedly shot several times in their direction, before he was shot by police. At the time, he was on parole for a 2001 conviction.
Bean is scheduled to be sentenced on September 21.
