Pokagon Band, Notre Dame Team Up For Language And Culture Events

The University of Notre Dame

Tuesday Night at Notre Dame representatives from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi will be hosting a Potawatomi Language and Culture Night.

The event is meant to teach the history of the University and the Pokagon band to interested students and community members.

Zada Ballew is a student at Notre Dame and a member of the Pokagon Band. She said the tribe and the University have a unique bond.

“The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi inhabited the land that Notre Dame is currently on and it is because of the Pokagon’s commitment to Catholicism that Notre Dame is here today.”

Kevin Daugherty of the tribe will lead the class covering language, stories and culture.

This is the second language and culture night at the University. The third will be in November.

Tuesday’s event starts at six in room 301 of DeBartolo Hall and is free and open to the public.
