Flora and Fauna: Mark Ghyselinck CSC and Julie Neises
June 14 through July 26 Opening reception on Saturday, June 14, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Artist talk July 12, at 2:00 pm by the two artists.
Fire Arts invites the public to an exhibit by Impressionist artist Mark Ghyselinck CSC, and sculptor Julie Neises. Their exhibit features the recently created mosaic paintings by Ghyselinck and the bronze creatures sculpted by Neises.
Having just retired from teaching at the University of Portland, Ghyselinck still creates many kinds of art. He has painted many mountains, rivers and flowers, and now looks forward to some Midwest Autumn color paintings. “Over the years I’ve grown toward being an impressionist artist and in this show my primary contribution will be two large mosaics made of painted canvases rather than pieces of glass.” When possible, he works with acrylics and likes to keep one slow-developing oil painting alive in the studio at all times.
Julie, also a retired art instructor, has been creating bronze work for the past46 years. Currently she has been focusing on our planet’s small creatures that are endangered or threatened in some way. In her research on that issue, she has realized that most all creatures seem to be threatened in some way due to climate change and loss of natural habitat. Many of Julie’s pieces have been exhibited in regional shows and competitions, including the Elkhart Regional Juried Show, the Hoosier Salon in Indianapolis, and the National Sculpture Society’s Annual show in New York.
