Young Eagles Give Kids the Chance to Fly

The Elkhart branch of the Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting a Young Eagles event on Saturday that allows kids to fly in small private aircraft.

Young Eagles is a national program meant to foster interest in aviation in kids. On Saturday any child between eight and 17 can sign up to ride in an airplane at the Elkhart Municipal Airport.

Kids also get to go up in the air traffic control tower and speak with engineers, mechanics, air traffic controllers and other professionals that make air travel work.

Doug Busch is the Young Eagles coordinator for Experimental Aircraft Association local club 132.

“They’ll be able to experience all the fun that separating themselves from the ground and being able to see what life looks like from a few thousand feet above the ground is what that experience is up.”

The event starts at 9 a.m. Children need to be pre-registered.
