Purdue President Defends Daughter's Contract With The School

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — The president of Purdue University says he wants to avoid the appearance of nepotism in a business arrangement that puts his daughter's tiny homes business on the West Lafayette campus for football weekends.

Purdue Research Foundation signed a contract almost three months ago with the president's daughter, Maggie Daniels, allowing her to rent out up to eight 200-square-foot homes as a tailgate village near Ross-Ade Stadium.

President Mitch Daniels says he and the university have "bent over triple-backwards" to show transparency in how the deal with Try It Tiny came to fruition. Daniels notes he left the room before the foundation board's vote in Feb. to avoid a conflict of interest.

Purdue will use the tiny homes from Sept. 7 to Nov. 2.
