Indiana State Police

There has been another crash involving a school bus in Indiana.  One person was injured. Here is the information from the Indiana State Police:

Bennett Switch – Today at approximately 7:34 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 18, in front of a home at 2802 West, in which a Galveston woman was injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Sergeant Rick Brown revealed that Carl Philpot, 56, Peru, IN, was driving a 2018 Thomas School bus westbound on State Road 18.  The bus stopped in front of a home at 2802 West to pick up an eight year old student. As the student entered the bus, the bus was rear-ended by a 2012 Chrysler minivan. The van was driven by Sarah Watson, 28, Galveston, IN.

Watson was transported by ambulance to Dukes Hospital with lacerations to her arms and legs. Philpot, nor any of the 18 students on the bus were injured.

This crash is still under investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash. Both drivers in the crash were wearing seat belts.

The bus is from the Maconaquah School Corporation.
