Indiana Democratic Party Chair Running For State Senate

FILE PHOTO: Brandon Smith/IPB News

Indiana Democratic Party Chair John Zody wants to take on an additional role – legislative candidate.

Zody announced Thursday he will run for a state Senate seat in southern Indiana next year. The current officeholder, Sen. Mark Stoops (D-Bloomington), announced his decision not to run for re-election earlier this month.

Zody says he has no plans at this time to step down from his leadership position in the Indiana Democratic Party. He tells Indiana Public Broadcasting, “I am ensuring that this is an outside endeavor and have prepared the staff and our State Committee accordingly.”

The open seat, based around Bloomington, will likely remain in Democrats’ hands.
